Mexico City, a vibrant metropolis rich in culture and history, offers a plethora of accommodation options. During our recent visit – our third to this captivating city – we once again chose the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma, and it proved to be an exceptional experience, further solidifying its place as our preferred hotel in the city.
Arriving in the late evening, I decided to inquire about a possible room upgrade, leveraging my Accor Gold loyalty status. To our delight, we were not only granted an upgrade but elevated from a superior room with a city view to what I can only describe as a luxury room boasting a breathtaking skyline panorama. Situated on the 32nd floor, the room was incredibly spacious and featured a deep soaking tub, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring the city.

Upon arrival, we sought a light refreshment and headed to the lobby bar. We enjoyed some snacks accompanied by a bottle of wine. While the ambiance was pleasant and the service attentive, it’s worth noting that the prices are on the higher side, reflecting the hotel’s luxury status.
The hotel’s fitness and wellness facilities, located on the 38th floor, are undoubtedly a highlight. The gym and pool, while not expansive, are well-equipped and offer stunning views. However, they can become quite busy, especially during peak hours, which is understandable given the hotel’s popularity and high occupancy.

Throughout our stay, the hotel staff were consistently friendly and responsive. We had a couple of minor requests – slippers and attention to our Nespresso machine. Slippers were promptly provided, though we later discovered they were readily available on the top shelf of the closet. Regarding the Nespresso machine, while the issue wasn’t entirely resolved, the staff made efforts to address it. It’s a small point, but my husband unfortunately ended up with a cold coffee early on our departure day at 4 am.
For guests who are part of the Accor loyalty program, it’s important to be aware of the welcome drink policy. The complimentary drink is exclusively honored at the lobby bar and not at the Cityzen rooftop bar. Furthermore, the lobby bar has limited operating days and was closed on the first few days of our stay. We were finally able to redeem our welcome drinks at Cityzen bar on a Sunday after a brief discussion with the hostess, who graciously accommodated us. While we appreciate the eventual resolution, this policy feels somewhat restrictive for hotel guests, especially considering the allure of the rooftop bar. It would be beneficial if hotel guests were given more flexibility in utilizing their Accor benefits within the hotel premises.

One final, but crucial, piece of advice for future guests: meticulously review your folio before checking out. Due to our very early departure (4:30 am), I didn’t scrutinize the bill as thoroughly as I should have. Subsequently, I believe we were charged for our pre-arranged airport transportation to the room, despite having already paid the driver in cash. It’s a detail easily overlooked in the rush of an early departure, but a reminder to always double-check all charges.
Despite this minor billing concern and the slight inconvenience with the Accor welcome drink, our experience at Sofitel Mexico City Reforma was overwhelmingly positive. The exceptional room upgrade, comfortable and well-appointed accommodations, coupled with the friendly and attentive staff, makes this hotel a standout choice in Mexico City. We wholeheartedly recommend Sofitel Mexico City Reforma and fully intend to return on our next visit to this dynamic city. It truly offers a luxurious and memorable stay.
