My friend Joshua Ballard and I stumbled upon this vibrant spot when searching for a quick bite, and it turned out to be a delightful detour from our original plans. Located conveniently in the shopping plaza across from the Neighborhood Walmart on South Gloster Street, Mi Michoacana offers a genuine taste of Mexico right here in Tupelo.
From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a cheerful and family-friendly atmosphere. The bright pink and green walls create a lively setting, with seating options for everyone. Adult-sized tables are available alongside charmingly ছোট kid-sized picnic tables, and a playhouse at the front adds an extra touch of whimsy for the little ones. Even the counter height is thoughtfully designed, making it easy for children to get a good look at all the tempting treats on display. This welcoming environment makes it a perfect spot for families and anyone looking for a relaxed and enjoyable experience while searching for “Mexican Ice Cream Near Me”.
While Mi Michoacana is known for its incredible selection of Mexican ice cream, or nieves, and popsicles, known as paletas, their menu extends far beyond just desserts. On this visit, we decided to explore some of their savory offerings. I opted for the Mexican Street Corn on a stick (you can also get it in a cup), along with beef and chicken tamales, prepared chicharron, and refreshing Aguas Frescas to drink. This diverse menu ensures there’s something to satisfy every craving, whether you’re in the mood for a full meal or just a sweet treat.
The tamales were a standout – clearly freshly made and packed with flavorful meat. They came with a side of hot sauce, perfect for adding a spicy kick. To balance the heat, the Aguas Frescas, made with rice and hints of cinnamon, was an ideal pairing. It was like a chilled, drinkable version of sweet rice pudding, incredibly refreshing and delicious. This traditional Mexican drink is a must-try alongside any of their savory dishes or sweet treats.
However, the Mexican Street Corn was the real revelation. Served on a stick and slathered with creamy, flavorful toppings, it was an absolute delight. From now on, I’m convinced that all corn on the cob should be served this way! It’s a perfect example of how Mi Michoacana elevates simple ingredients into something truly special.
The Prepared Chicharron was another interesting and visually appealing dish. I ordered it “with everything,” and it arrived piled high with cheese, vibrant veggies, and a variety of sauces. It even included pickled pork skin, which can be omitted for a vegetarian option, leaving a colorful and flavorful dish of veggies, cheese, and special sauces. This demonstrates the versatility and customization available at Mi Michoacana.
Despite indulging in the savory options, I couldn’t ignore the main attraction: the Mexican ice cream. While I didn’t personally sample the nieves or paletas on this visit, I’ve heard wonderful things about their unique flavors and creamy textures. They boast a wide array of sweet treats, with Mexican-inspired ice cream flavors that promise a unique and unforgettable dessert experience. From fruity paletas perfect for a hot day to rich and creamy nieves, Mi Michoacana is definitely a must-visit for anyone searching for “mexican ice cream near me”. I’m already planning my next trip to specifically explore their impressive ice cream selection and make amends for missing out this time!
