This exciting new performance series is designed to showcase talented Latinx composers and performers, offering a rich celebration of Hispanic heritage right in the heart of Austin.
Curated by acclaimed Mexican mezzo-soprano and Austin resident, Claudia Chapa, the free series launches with a special concert by mezzo-soprano Stephanie Sanchez. This inaugural performance, celebrating Mexican Independence Day, was captured within the spacious 26,000 square foot facilities of the Mexican Consulate in Austin, located on Ben White Boulevard in East Austin. It will premiere as a digital concert on October 1, 2021, accessible through Austin Opera’s website and social media channels as part of their Live from Indy Terrace digital platform, and also on the Mexican Consulate in Austin‘s streaming platforms. Future events in the Concerts at the Consulate series will welcome in-person audiences alongside online streaming options.
Each event within the Concerts at the Consulate series promises a multifaceted experience. Attendees and viewers can expect captivating musical performances, insightful discussions exploring the artistic and social context of each program, and valuable promotion of cultural and social organizations deeply engaged within Austin’s diverse Latinx community. Beyond showcasing world-class Latinx singers, pianists, guitarists, and Mariachi ensembles, the series will also incorporate educational programs tailored for children, ensuring a broad community engagement.
