Grand Sunset Princess Mexico: An Awesome All-Inclusive Getaway – A Detailed Review

Planning a Mexican Caribbean vacation and considering the Grand Sunset Princess in Mexico? Look no further! My husband and I just returned from this resort, and despite some mixed reviews online, our experience was fantastic. If you’re looking for a destination that combines relaxation, great food, and excellent service, keep reading about our firsthand experience at Grand Sunset Princess Mexico.

We arrived at the Grand Sunset Princess expecting a brand-new resort experience, and in many ways, that’s exactly what we got. Yes, there were a few minor teething issues typical of a new establishment. Our room safe didn’t have batteries upon arrival, and we heard whispers of occasional air conditioning and plumbing hiccups from other guests. However, these were minor inconveniences that didn’t detract from our overall enjoyment. The resort truly shines in the areas that matter most for a relaxing vacation.

The pool areas are expansive and inviting, offering plenty of space to unwind and soak up the Mexican sun. The beach is beautiful, perfect for long walks and enjoying the turquoise waters. However, if you’re planning on swimming, it’s worth noting that the seabed can be a bit rocky in places. Bringing water shoes or scuba boots, as I did, is a smart move for comfortable swimming.

One of the absolute highlights of our stay at Grand Sunset Princess Mexico was the food. Simply put, it was fantastic. From buffet breakfasts with endless options to delicious à la carte dinners, every meal was a treat. The service across the resort was also exceptional. While it was clear they were still working with a slightly lean staff, the team members were consistently friendly, attentive, and eager to please. Our advice? Go with a relaxed attitude, don’t sweat the small stuff, and you’re guaranteed to have a wonderful time at Grand Sunset Princess Mexico.

Beyond the resort itself, we also ventured out for some diving in Playa del Carmen, and this is where our trip truly went from great to unforgettable. A short and affordable taxi ride ($14 US, 15 minutes) took us to Playa del Carmen where we had the pleasure of diving with Jason from Fantasea Dive (Fantasea Dive Scuba Diving, Fishing, Dive Packages, and Extreme Sports in Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Riviera Maya, Yucatan, Mexico and Caribbean). Jason, known as PlayaCountryBoy online, absolutely lived up to his excellent reputation.

Over three days, we enjoyed five incredible dives with Fantasea Dive. While I’m a semi-experienced diver with over 70 dives under my belt, my husband was newer to diving, having just received his open water certification. Jason expertly tailored each dive to our needs and preferences. He listened to my request for easy, relaxed dives suitable for my husband, taking into account his comfort level with drift and depth, as well as his susceptibility to motion sickness.

On our second day, Jason planned our dives to include a relaxing hour on the beach between dives, a welcome change from being on the boat, which helped my husband avoid any motion sickness. By the third day, the seas were calm enough that he was able to comfortably spend the surface interval on the boat. Jason also thoughtfully planned our second dive each day to be shallower than the first, allowing us to explore the reefs at a leisurely pace. As someone who loves to meticulously examine reefs and discover the smaller marine life hiding in crevices, I truly appreciated not feeling rushed. Being able to take our time and explore the coral bommies was a highlight of the diving experience.

In conclusion, our stay at Grand Sunset Princess Mexico was overwhelmingly positive. Minor new-resort issues were easily overshadowed by the beautiful pools and beach, fantastic food, and outstanding service. And for divers or anyone looking to explore the underwater wonders of the Riviera Maya, we wholeheartedly recommend taking a trip to Playa del Carmen and diving with Jason at Fantasea Dive. You won’t be disappointed!
