Top Mexican Restaurants in Hendricks County: A Foodie’s Fiesta

If you’re like me and could happily eat Mexican food every single day, then Hendricks County is your culinary paradise! Living here, I’ve discovered a fantastic array of Mexican restaurants, making it totally feasible to indulge in tacos, burritos, and enchiladas whenever the craving hits. From Brownsburg to Danville and everywhere in between, the choices are plentiful, and the quality is outstanding.

Ask anyone to name the absolute “best” Mexican restaurant in Hendricks County, and you’re likely to get a different answer every time. That’s because we’re spoiled for choice! Everyone has their own idea of what makes a Mexican restaurant truly exceptional. For me, there are a few key things that elevate a place from good to great.

My personal criteria for judging a top-tier Mexican restaurant include:

  • Excellent chips and salsa: This is the crucial starting point!
  • Tasty margaritas: A must-have for the full experience.
  • Festive atmosphere: Dining out should be fun and vibrant.
  • Wide array of appetizing, large-portioned meals: Variety and value are important.

Even with my dedicated research (and delicious taste tests!), it’s almost impossible to declare one single Mexican restaurant in Hendricks County as my ultimate favorite. However, I can certainly share a couple that consistently rank at the top of my list. I encourage you to embark on your own culinary adventure and discover your personal favorites!

Iguanas Mexican Restaurant: A Brownsburg Favorite

For me, Iguanas in Brownsburg is a reliable go-to Mexican restaurant. While its proximity to my home might be a slight advantage, it’s truly the generous portions and incredibly tasty margaritas that keep me coming back for more.

One of the immediate joys of dining at any Mexican restaurant is the almost magical appearance of chips and salsa as soon as you’re seated. It’s the perfect way to start a meal and get your taste buds excited.

And speaking of chips and salsa, I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur! Personally, I prefer my salsa with a good kick of spice. While Iguanas’ salsa leans towards the milder side, it’s undeniably flavorful and pairs perfectly with their thick, lightly salted tortilla chips.

My biggest dilemma at Mexican restaurants? It’s definitely resisting the urge to fill up entirely on chips and salsa before my actual meal even arrives! But honestly, if that’s the biggest problem, I’m happy to face it. Plus, overindulging in chips often means I get to take home leftovers, which is always a welcome bonus for lunch the next day.

One dish I consistently crave at Iguanas is the tacos de cameron, or shrimp tacos. They serve three soft flour tortillas loaded with creamy avocado and plump, juicy shrimp, accompanied by fresh pico de gallo on the side. It also comes with a separate plate of rice and beans. It’s a dish that manages to be both light and satisfying at the same time – and utterly delicious!

When it comes to margaritas, Iguanas truly shines. They offer a wide range of fun and vibrant flavors that perfectly complement the restaurant’s colorful and lively atmosphere. From mango and watermelon to banana and pineapple, there are so many tempting options to choose from.

Whether you prefer your margarita frozen or on the rocks, with a tart edge or a sweet and fruity profile, you’re sure to find the perfect margarita to tantalize your taste buds at Iguanas. And if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, I highly recommend trying the lime and jalapeno margarita. ¡Muy caliente!

3 Agaves Mexican Restaurant: Avon’s Festive Fiesta

Recently, I ventured to 3 Agaves in Avon for the first time, drawn in by the numerous rave reviews I had heard, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed!

Stepping into this vibrant and colorful restaurant, buzzing with happy diners, instantly put me in a relaxed and festive mood. If the weather is pleasant, their outdoor patio area is also a fantastic spot to gather with friends and family, enjoy a delicious meal, and perhaps indulge in a round of adult beverages.

I have to give credit where credit is due: 3 Agaves serves up some truly exceptional chips and salsa. The chips are perfectly thin and crispy, providing the ideal crunch, and they are wonderfully paired with their salsa, which has just the right amount of subtle heat. My only minor complaint? Our food arrived so quickly that I barely had enough time to fully enjoy the entire bowl of salsa!

The moment my eyes landed on my generously sized wet burrito, I knew a to-go container was inevitable. Smothered in a rich and creamy cheese sauce, this burrito is packed with both flavorful chicken and succulent shrimp. I loved that I didn’t have to choose between these two delicious fillings. Every bite was a delight, and it was just as satisfying when reheated the next day!

To complement my burrito, I decided to be a bit adventurous and ordered a Pink Cadillac margarita. This pretty-in-pink drink is expertly crafted with Jimador blanco tequila, Patron Citronge liqueur, pomegranate, triple sec, and fresh lime juice. It’s the ideal choice for anyone who appreciates a margarita on the sweeter and more tropical side.

With my sweet cravings thoroughly satisfied and my stomach happily full, I unfortunately had no room left for dessert. However, I made a mental note to return to 3 Agaves very soon to sample their sopapillas and churros. Next time, dessert is a must!
