The Mexico City government, through its Sports Institute, along with the Mexican Federation of Athletics Associations (FMAA), World Athletics (WA), and the International Association of Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), proudly announces the XLII MEXICO CITY MARATHON TELCEL 2025, an event championing “A Capital City of Change and Rights.” This prestigious race invites national and international sports federations, state associations, organizations, institutions, public and private sports clubs, and the general public to participate in a remarkable athletic endeavor.

This guide outlines everything you need to know to participate in the Telcel Mexico City Marathon 2025, ensuring you’re well-prepared for race day.
1. Date
Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 31, 2025. This is the day you’ll join thousands of runners in the heart of Mexico City.
2. Participants
Join up to 30,000 runners from around the globe in this iconic marathon. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
3. Place
The race will take place on the main roads of Mexico City, covering a certified 42,195-meter route. This course is officially certified and approved by the FMAA, AIMS, and WA, ensuring a world-class marathon experience.
4. Start & Finish Line
START LINE: Insurgentes Sur Avenue, between the Central Library and the UNAM University Olympic Stadium.
Departure Times:
- Wheelchair and visually impaired block: 05:45 hrs.
- Elite Women’s Block: 05:50 hrs.
- Elite Men’s Block & Block A: 06:00 hrs.
- Block B: 06:15 hrs.
- Block C: 06:30 hrs.
FINISH LINE: Zócalo in Mexico City. Experience the thrill of crossing the finish line in the historic heart of Mexico City.
5. Requirements
To participate in the Telcel Mexico City Marathon 2025, ensure you meet the following requirements:
- Age: Participants must be at least 18 years old on the day of the event.
- Registration Fee: Both national and international runners are required to pay a registration fee. Details on costs are provided in section 7.
- Elite Foreign Runners: Must present endorsement from their Federation and proof of immigration status.
- Health Measures: All participants are responsible for adhering to the health measures and recommendations outlined in the Health Protocol for the XLII Mexico City Marathon TELCEL 2025. Stay updated through official channels: https://indeporte.cdmx.gob.mx/, https://maraton.cdmx.gob.mx, and official event communications.
- COVID-19 Protocols: Depending on health authority requirements, runners may need to show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before the event. Check the official website for the most current health guidelines closer to the event date.
6. Registrations
Registration opens with the launch of this call and will close on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, online and at Tiendas Martí. Late registration, if spots are still available, will be possible at the Expo Maratón until Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. Don’t delay, register early to secure your spot!
7. Cost
Take advantage of early bird pricing and plan your budget accordingly:
- National Athletes (until December 31, 2024): $750 pesos
- National Athletes (starting January 1, 2025): $800 pesos
- Foreign Athletes: $110 USD
Expo Maratón Registration (August 28-30, 2025):
- All Athletes (National and Foreign): $1,150 pesos (Only in support of “Run with a Cause” foundations, if spots are available).
Personalized Bib Number: Register before June 30, 2025, to have your bib number personalized with your first name.

The Telcel Mexico City Marathon 2025 welcomes both Women and Men participants.
9. Categories
Compete in categories designed to ensure fair competition and celebrate diverse athletic achievements.

Categories for Individuals with Visual Disabilities:
To ensure proper categorization and support, athletes with visual disabilities must present an original medical certificate from a government institution (ISSSTE, IMSS, or Health Sector) confirming their condition when collecting their runner’s package. They must also run with a guide and wear a mask.
Visual Impairment Classifications:
- CLASSIFICATION T11 ATHLETES B1: From no light perception to light perception without hand shape recognition.
- CLASSIFICATION T12 ATHLETES B2: Hand shape recognition to visual acuity of 2/60 and/or a visual field less than 5 degrees.
- CLASSIFICATION T13 ATHLETES B3: Visual acuity worse than 2/60 to 6/60 and/or a visual field greater than 5 degrees but less than 20 degrees.
Visually impaired runners can have up to two guides throughout the event. Guides must wear distinctive vests labeled “guide.”

10. Regulations
The Telcel Mexico City Marathon 2025 will adhere to the current FMAA regulations.
11. Guidelines
The marathon is supported by the FMAA, WA, and AIMS, ensuring adherence to international standards.
- BIB NUMBER & TIMING CHIP: Each participant will receive a non-transferable bib number with an attached timing chip. This must be worn visibly at chest height throughout the race to be considered an official runner.
- HEALTHCARE COST INSURANCE: Insurance coverage in case of accidents is valid only for registered runners wearing their assigned bib number. Write your name, blood type, allergies, and medical conditions on the back of your bib for emergency responders.
- SERVICES: Utilize designated supply areas to maintain course integrity and fairness.
- RECOVERY PACKAGE: Only official runners with their bib number will receive a finisher’s medal, fruit, water, and isotonic drink in the recovery area. Unofficial runners will be disqualified and denied access.
- T-SHIRT SIZE: Shirt size requests during registration are for statistical purposes only and do not guarantee the requested size.
- RUNNER STARTING BLOCKS: Start in your assigned block as indicated by your registration. Starting in a different block will lead to disqualification.
- RESULTS & CHECKPOINTS: Electronic checkpoints along the route will track your time. Ensure you cross every checkpoint to avoid disqualification. Real-time runner tracking will be available via the Marathon App. Published times and results are unofficial initially.
- UNOFFICIAL RUNNERS: Unregistered runners are prohibited on the course and will be removed. Participants with fake bib numbers will face penalties and future bans from “Mexico City Marathon” brand events.
- ROUTE DELIMITATION: Stay within marked boundaries throughout the race. Follow official signs, symbols, and marshal instructions. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
- TIME LIMIT: The maximum pace allowed is 8 minutes and 30 seconds per kilometer, requiring completion within 6 hours. Runners exceeding this time will be directed to the sweeper vehicle, disqualified, and not included in official results.
- ROUTE MONITORING: Completing the entire course and crossing the finish line are mandatory. Incomplete course completion or irregularities may lead to disqualification. Re-entry to the course after leaving is only permitted at the exit point and not to gain advantage.
- UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT: Any act of cheating, including taking shortcuts, will result in disqualification.
12. Judges
Judges certified by the FMAA will officiate the race. An electronic timing system, while used for timing, is for support and does not determine winners.
13. Awards

Important Notes on Awards:
- Top 8 overall finishers cannot claim age category prizes. Prizes will be paid in Mexican pesos at the exchange rate on event day.
- Bonuses are not cumulative, except for Mexican-born athletes who can potentially accumulate the 1st Mexican bonus with a record bonus and the special Mexican prize.
- Special prizes are awarded to the top 3 Mexican finishers who meet specific time criteria (Men: 2h 14m 00s, Women: 2h 42m 00s).
- Prize money is subject to withholdings as per FMAA regulations and Mexican fiscal law (including anti-doping fund contributions for top finishers).
- Winners in the top eight overall spots who also rank top in their age category will receive only the overall prize.
- Wheelchair category prizes are separate from the overall top spots.
- A minimum of 25 participants per category is required for prize eligibility (excluding visually impaired and wheelchair categories).
- Doping tests may be conducted on top finishers.
- Prize payments will be processed within 30 days after the FMAA releases official anti-doping results.
- In case of adverse analytical findings, prizes will be adjusted accordingly.
- Award distribution methods include check, e-transfer, or letter of attorney.
- Foreign athletes’ managers must sign a commitment letter for prize collection responsibilities.
- Runners are responsible for checking results on the Mexico City Marathon website and in major Mexican newspapers.
- World Athletics levy of 2.0% applies to gross prize money for top 8 elite athletes as a contribution to the anti-doping fund.
- The Organizing Committee may contact athletes regarding the award ceremony. Timely action is the responsibility of the athlete and their representative.
- Preliminary results for awards will be available from 10:30 a.m. on race day, with a 30-minute protest window as per FMAA regulations.
- Name changes are not permitted to ensure athlete safety.
14. Number Assignment
Bib numbers are assigned based on registration date. Starting blocks are organized by expected finish time for the 42,195 meters. Bib number 1 and 101 are reserved for the 2024 overall winners.
Runners aiming for the first starting block must present an FMAA and AIMS endorsed marathon time certificate from 2022, 2023, or 2024, with sub-3-hour for women and sub-2 hours 25 minutes for men.
14.1 Runner’s Package Pick-up:
Collect your official number, chip, and runner’s package at the Expo (location to be confirmed):
- Thursday, August 28: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Friday, August 29: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Saturday, August 30, 2025: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Pick-up is staggered to avoid crowding. Check indeporte.cdmx.gob.mx or www.maraton.cdmx.gob.mx for details. Important: Package pick-up is personal; you must present a copy of your official ID. No name changes are allowed.
14.2 Runner Amenities and Services:
The Organizing Committee provides registered runners with:
- Official bib number with timing chip.
- Commemorative event T-shirt.
- Digital info passport.
- Medical services at the start, along the route, and at the finish line.
- Gear check service (unclaimed items after one month will be discarded as per regulations).
- WA-compliant route signage.
- Security and surveillance along the route, coordinated with Mexico City’s Secretariat of Citizen Security.
- Water stations at kilometers 2.5, 7.5, 12.5, 17.5, 22.5, 27.5, 32.5, and 37.5.
- Isotonic drink stations at kilometers 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40.
- Participation medal for finishers.
- Recovery pack with fruit and hydration at the finish line.
- Life insurance coverage for accidents directly related to the race (from three hours before the start until 11:59 p.m. on August 31, 2025), excluding incidents due to illness or negligence.
15. Commercial
Promotional activities are prohibited at all marathon-related events and along the route without prior authorization from the Organizing Committee and the Mexico City Sports Institute. This includes mascots and unauthorized advertising.
16. Trademark Registration
The Telcel Mexico City Marathon’s official logo and graphic image are registered trademarks. Unauthorized reproduction or use may result in legal action.
17. Jury Appeal
Protests must be submitted within 30 minutes of results announcement, following regulations and including a $100 USD (or peso equivalent) start-up fee. The Appeals Jury will consist of Organizing Committee members and a Referee.
18. Transitional
Any unforeseen issues will be resolved by the Organizing Committee, whose decisions are final.
Legal Note: Only announcements regarding the XLII Telcel Mexico City Marathon 2025 bearing the seal and signature of the General Director of the Mexico City Sports Institute are valid.
