Luxury Hotels Mexico City: Condesa DF, A Timeless Design Icon

Condesa DF remains a benchmark for luxury hotels in Mexico City. Even before the city’s culinary scene exploded and international recognition followed, this design-forward boutique hotel set the standard for cool. Opened 20 years ago by Grupo Habita, the hospitality group also behind Hotel Escondido and The Robey, Condesa DF continues to impress.

Grupo Habita transformed a neoclassical 1920s apartment building into a modern masterpiece. Mexican architect Javier Sanchez and Iranian-French designer India Mahdavi collaborated to create a space that remains strikingly contemporary. The building’s original arched windows and French balconettes blend seamlessly with sleek metal shades that enclose guest rooms from the open-air atrium. Inside, mod, futuristic furniture, reminiscent of the Jetsons, is paired with bold color accents like turquoise and lemon yellow. Think white semi-circle leather couches and lacquered tables resembling chess pieces.

Nestled amidst palms and pines just steps from Parque España, Condesa DF provides a tranquil escape from the bustling city. This vibrant neighborhood, known for its creative energy and picturesque square where locals gather, offers a unique blend of tranquility and urban excitement.

The hotel offers five distinct room types, with the corner suites boasting wrap-around terraces as a standout feature. These terraces offer breathtaking views, especially during springtime when the jacaranda trees bloom in vibrant purple hues. A vintage 1950s Chevy, permanently parked out front, serves as a symbol of arrival for guests and stylish locals alike, who flock to the iconic rooftop bar for some of the city’s best sushi.

Condesa DF’s enduring appeal lies in its commitment to exceptional design, its prime location in the heart of Condesa, and its ability to provide a serene retreat amidst the city’s vibrant energy. It remains a testament to timeless design and continues to define luxury in Mexico City’s hotel landscape.
