Hotels Mexico City: Condesa DF, a Design Pioneer

Condesa DF, Mexico City’s first design boutique hotel, established its cool factor long before the capital became a global hotspot. Even before international chefs flocked to Pujol and foodies filled Instagram with tacos al pastor, Condesa DF was setting a trend. Twenty years later, it remains a benchmark for cool, not necessarily for sheer luxury, but for its enduring design.

Grupo Habita, the hospitality group also responsible for Hotel Escondido and The Robey, transformed a 1920s neoclassical apartment building into a modern marvel. Mexican architect Javier Sanchez and Iranian-French designer India Mahdavi collaborated to create a space that continues to feel innovative. The original architecture, with its arched windows and French balconettes, provides a classic backdrop for the contemporary interiors.

Sleek metal shades separate guest rooms from the open-air atrium. The furnishings are a blend of mod and futuristic, featuring white semicircular leather couches and lacquered tables resembling chess pieces. Bold yet minimalist colors, like turquoise walls and lemon-yellow chairs, punctuate the spaces.

Condesa DF is ideally located near Parque España, one of Mexico City’s most charming squares, offering a tranquil escape from the bustling city while remaining in the heart of a vibrant neighborhood. Surrounded by palms and pines, the hotel provides a serene atmosphere just steps away from the energy of the city.

The hotel offers five room types, with the corner suites and their wrap-around terraces being particularly noteworthy. These suites offer stunning views, especially in spring when the jacaranda trees bloom in vibrant purple hues.

A vintage 1950s Chevy, permanently parked out front, signals arrival at this iconic destination. The rooftop bar, renowned for serving some of the city’s best sushi, attracts stylish locals and visitors alike. Condesa DF remains a testament to innovative design and a must-visit for those seeking a unique Mexico City hotel experience. The enduring appeal of Condesa DF lies in its ability to seamlessly blend classic architecture with modern design, creating a timeless and unforgettable experience.
