In 1970, he immigrated to California with his wife and ten children. The family worked tirelessly as crop pickers, moving from the Coachella Valley to Sacramento, taking on any job available. Driven by a desire to provide for her family, the mother always believed they would one day own their home. This dream came to fruition in 1972 when the family settled in Placentia and purchased their first house.
Just two years later, in 1974, the father took a leap of faith and purchased a closed-down restaurant. With no prior business experience, he envisioned a place where his family could work together. He named it El Farolito, meaning “the little lighthouse,” symbolizing a beacon of hope for the future. The restaurant had its grand opening on May 10th, a fitting Mother’s Day gift for the matriarch who had always dreamed of uniting her family in a common endeavor.
