Helados Mexico Ice Cream Recall: Potential Salmonella Risk

Tropicale Foods has initiated a voluntary recall of its Helados Mexico Mini Cream Variety Pack due to the potential presence of Salmonella in the mango bars included within the pack. This announcement, originating from the company in Modesto, CA, emphasizes the recall of 5,224 units of this specific product, identified by the “MO Best By 10/11/2025” date.

The recall is a precautionary measure due to possible Salmonella contamination, an organism posing significant health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems. Salmonella infection can manifest in healthy individuals as fever, diarrhea (potentially bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In more severe, albeit rare instances, Salmonella can enter the bloodstream, leading to serious conditions like arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

The affected Helados Mexico Mini Cream Variety Packs were distributed to retail locations across a wide range of states including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Washington, DC, and also to select locations in Europe. Consumers are advised to locate the “best by” date, which is printed on the bottom of the retail box, to determine if they possess the recalled product.

To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. The potential contamination was identified through finished product testing of the mango bars, which indicated the possible presence of Salmonella. Tropicale Foods has stopped further distribution of the affected product and is currently investigating the root cause of the issue to implement corrective actions and prevent future occurrences.

Consumers who have purchased the Helados Mexico Mini Cream Variety Pack with the specified best by date are urged to dispose of the product immediately and refrain from consumption. For any questions or concerns regarding this recall, consumers can contact Tropicale Foods’ Communications Department at 909-563-3090, available Monday to Friday, between 8 am and 5 pm Pacific Time. Alternatively, inquiries can be sent via email to [email protected].
