Regarding the automatic time adjustment on various electronic devices on Sunday, April 2nd, 2023, we share the following important information about Mexico time.
The National Center of Metrology (CENAM) is the institution responsible for generating, maintaining, and disseminating the Official Mexican Time. This is established in accordance with international standards reflected in the CENAM Coordinated Universal Time, UTC(CNM), synchronized with the rest of the world’s time scales. You can check the official local times across the national territory at https://www.cenam.mx/hora_oficial/, where the time is displayed for each time zone defined in the Time Zones Law.
Most electronic devices include a time display function, and seasonal time changes can be programmed either manually or automatically. This is typically done through software or operating system implementations by device manufacturers and providers. However, many of these software programs were not updated following Mexico’s elimination of daylight saving time in 2022. Consequently, each manufacturer is responsible for implementing the necessary software updates to reflect changes in time zones. CENAM does not control, have any influence, or have any contractual relationship with electronic device manufacturers.
Despite this, CENAM has been in communication with various equipment providers and manufacturers to encourage them to update their applications, if they have not already done so, and to promptly synchronize their devices with the official Mexico time.
