Also available to book at Hotels.com
What We Like: The room rate inclusively covers a vast selection of activities, dining options, and even airport transfers, providing exceptional value.
What to Consider: As one of the largest resorts in the Riviera Maya, its expansive size might require considerable walking to navigate the entire property.
Few family friendly resorts in mexico achieve the level of excellence seen at Hotel Xcaret Mexico. It’s no surprise that this resort topped our World’s Best list for 2023. This massive, upscale, family-focused resort is among the largest in the region, featuring 900 beautifully appointed rooms. Yet, despite its scale, Hotel Xcaret Mexico manages to maintain an intimate, boutique feel. This is likely due to the thoughtfully designed layout, offering numerous secluded spots for guests to relax and explore, ensuring that no area feels overly crowded, a characteristic rarely found in one of the region’s top hotels.
The extensive grounds are designed with a prehistoric aesthetic, featuring stone-like facades, dense tropical vegetation, and even a cenote-inspired river bordered by canyon walls. This tranquil area also houses the luxurious spa. Ten restaurants, eight bars, and a comprehensive kids’ club enhance the amenities. However, the most compelling perk for families is the unlimited, all-inclusive access to all Grupo Xcaret theme parks, with transportation included. Also available to book at Expedia.com
What We Like: Every room offers stunning ocean views and private terraces, ensuring a picturesque and secluded retreat.
What to Consider: The beach at this location is not swimmable, a common characteristic of Los Cabos beaches due to strong currents and undertow.
Los Cabos presents a dizzying array of high-end resort choices for travelers. However, Grand Velas Los Cabos has carved out a niche in the market for luxurious, all-inclusive resorts perfectly suited for families. It has also been recognized on our World’s Best Awards list in 2023.

What We Like: This resort enjoys one of the best locations in Puerto Vallarta, offering breathtaking views of the Bahia de Banderas.
What to Consider: Guests at the neighboring adults-only Hotel Mousai have reciprocal access to Garza Blanca’s facilities, but not vice versa.
While I seldom recommend staying at an all-inclusive resort when visiting Puerto Vallarta, I gladly make an exception for Garza Blanca Preserve. I highly recommend this resort for families due to its spectacular location, generously proportioned rooms, and a wide array of adventure-focused activities.
Puerto Vallarta and the Bay of Banderas are ideal destinations for nature enthusiasts and active travelers, and Garza Blanca Preserve positions families perfectly to take advantage of all the region offers. Each of the 165 rooms at the resort treats guests to stunning ocean views, complemented by the verdant, jungle-covered Sierra Madre mountains. The property features three pools: two by the beach and one centrally located between Garza Blanca and its adults-only sister resort, Hotel Mousai. A small, white sand beach in front of the resort allows guests to easily launch kayaks and explore the coves and natural landmarks along the shoreline. Hiking trails are abundant in the surrounding area, and the hotel staff are readily available to provide guidance and recommendations.
Although the resort does not have a dedicated kids’ club, families who enjoy spending quality time together with numerous on-site activities will find it perfectly suited to their needs. A recently opened shopping village situated between Garza Blanca and Hotel Mousai adds to the amenities, featuring local boutiques, a charming vintage-inspired carousel, and several dining options.

A dynamic pool scene at Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos, featuring slides and swim-up bars.
Also available to book at Expedia.com
What We Like: Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos offers an extensive range of options and activities designed to cater to families, ensuring entertainment for all ages.
What to Consider: The beach at this location is not suitable for swimming due to strong currents, which is typical for many beaches in Los Cabos.
Hard Rock operates several hotels across Mexico, all inviting travelers to embrace their inner rock star. However, their Los Cabos resort particularly captured attention when it opened in 2019. The 639-room resort shines like a neon-lit oasis against the stark desert backdrop of the Baja Peninsula. Facing the resort is the powerful Pacific Ocean, whose dramatic waves and booming soundtrack enhance the atmosphere, even if swimming is not advisable.
While ocean swimming may not be an option (common in Cabo), Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos compensates with its impressive array of pools – five in total, including water slides and swim-up bars. While adults explore the eight dining choices or enjoy a signature massage at the Rock Spa, children can relax and play at the Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club, Teens Club, or even the on-site bowling alley. As expected from the Hard Rock brand, guests can look forward to glamorous rock memorabilia, music-themed activities, and rooms equipped with outdoor hydro spa soaking tubs.
The Details:
- Distance to San Jose del Cabo airport: 35 miles
- Wi-Fi: Included for all guests.
- Facilities for Families: Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club, Teens Club, Music Lab, Bowling Alley, providing diverse entertainment options for all ages.

Also available to book at Tripadvisor.com
What We Like: A dedicated family concierge service is available to enhance your stay with exclusive perks and tailored amenities.
What to Consider: While spacious and well-appointed, the rooms may be due for a refresh to modernize their décor.
Paradisus Cancun is hard to overlook when traveling through Cancun’s Hotel Zone. Its distinctive collection of five gleaming white pyramids dominates the skyline, overlooking a stunning stretch of beach. Fortunately, the hotel’s appeal extends far beyond its striking architecture. The 525-room Paradisus Cancun is a luxury all-inclusive resort situated on one of Cancun’s finest beachfronts. Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto by Danzante Bay
Also available to book at Expedia.com
What We Like: This relatively undiscovered all-inclusive resort boasts one of the most spectacular locations on Mexico’s Sea of Cortez, offering unparalleled natural beauty.
What to Consider: Unless you are able to fly directly into Loreto airport, it is a considerable drive from Los Cabos, which may be inconvenient for some travelers.
It remains surprising that Loreto, Baja California Sur, is not a more bustling tourist destination, despite having an international airport. However, those who appreciate this tranquil town along the Sea of Cortez coast are undoubtedly content with its peaceful ambiance. Loreto is a gem, cherished for its sandy streets, relaxed atmosphere, and prime location overlooking the clear waters of the Sea of Cortez.
Located about six hours north of Cabo San Lucas, Loreto lacks the dense clusters of hotels and resorts found in more crowded areas. However, it is home to a standout property: Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto. Protected by towering mountains on one side and overlooking the stunning island-dotted Danzante Bay on the other, this beautiful hotel spans nearly 4,500 acres of natural landscape. This includes secluded, Capri-like coves, untouched beaches, five pools, a sprawling 39,000-square-foot spa, and an 18-hole golf course designed by Rees Jones. A significant $42 million investment in 2022 modernized 338 suites and added a new wing with 158 rooms.
Families are drawn to this resort for the sheer volume of activities available, from snorkeling and kayaking in the Loreto Bay National Marine Park just offshore, to an extensive list of kid-focused activities. These include kids’ yoga, pool games, movie nights, nature walks, dance lessons, and even Spanish lessons. Themed nights at the resort provide entertainment for the entire family, featuring live performances of popular family musicals and festive Mexican-themed fiestas, making it one of the most engaging family friendly resorts in mexico.
The Details:
- Distance to airport: 25 miles from Loreto International Airport; 317 miles from Los Cabos, indicating its more secluded location.
- Wi-Fi: Free in common areas.
- Facilities for Families: Dedicated kids’ activities, water sports, family-friendly shows and theme nights, ensuring a fun-filled vacation.
- Gratuities: Not included, allowing guests to tip based on service.
- Rates: Start at $714
Know Before You Go: Essential Tips for Family Travel to Mexico
Consider the Season
Mexico welcomes visitors year-round, but the optimal times to visit vary by region and preference. The most favorable weather in beach destinations typically occurs from November through April. The months of July and August can become extremely hot and humid. Hurricane season often impacts the region in September and October. Additionally, sargassum seaweed season in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, which runs from April through October, might be a consideration for beachgoers.
Amenities Can Trump Location
While a beachfront hotel is often desired, sometimes the natural environment has other plans. For instance, many beaches in Los Cabos are not safe for swimming due to strong currents. Beaches in Cancun and the Riviera Maya might experience seaweed accumulation during sargassum season. Choosing an all-inclusive resort that is rich in amenities and boasts excellent pool facilities, such as those in Playa del Carmen, ensures that everyone in the family will find enjoyable activities, regardless of beach conditions.
Be Aware of Timeshare Offers
Many hotels and resorts in Mexico have timeshare desks on their premises, staffed by salespeople eager to attract new timeshare owners. If purchasing a timeshare is not part of your vacation plan, it is perfectly acceptable to politely but firmly state that you are not interested. Salespeople can sometimes be persistent, so it is important to be prepared to confidently decline.
How We Selected These Hotels
With hundreds of family friendly resorts in mexico, identifying the best can be a challenging task. Several of the hotels on this list earned their place due to recognition in our annual World’s Best awards, where hundreds of thousands of Travel + Leisure readers vote for their favorite hotels worldwide.
