Ballantine Communications Inc., publisher of the Tri-City Record, has purchased the Farmington Daily Times from Gannett Co., Inc. The sale is expected to close on June 1st, for an undisclosed amount. Ballantine Communications plans to merge the Farmington Daily Times with the Tri-City Record, effective June 1st. This merger will create a single newspaper covering Aztec, Bloomfield, and Farmington, New Mexico.
Tri-City Record and Farmington Daily Times to Merge
The Tri-City Record launched in 2022, covering local news in Aztec, Bloomfield, and Farmington. The Farmington Daily Times, founded in 1949, has a long history in the region, serving as a local news source under various names since the late 19th century. Gannett acquired the Daily Times in 2015. John Blais, CEO and Publisher of Ballantine Communications, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, emphasizing a commitment to local reporting.
Subscription Changes and Transition Details
Existing Farmington Daily Times subscriptions will transfer to the Tri-City Record. The print frequency will be reduced to three days a week, with subscriptions extended to compensate.
